Educated via a scholarship to UCS and then Brixton School of Building, Stephen Dargavel set up his own industrial consultancy in 1977 which continued until his switch to a full time art career in 2008.
Led by his lifelong passion for the environment the business developed strategies for energy conservation in industry and distribution ultimately employing over 2000 people in the pursuit of excellence in this field.
Stephen Dargavel’s crowning achievement in his view has been the conception and development of the UK’s highest ever BREEAM (environmental) rated building at Thorpe Park, Leeds in 2007. This 4500m2 office building is green, beautiful and a commercial success. It has won many industry awards.
Stephen was appointed an Industrial Fellow at Nottingham University in 2006. A lifelong artist, his first love is now a full time career with his art practice focused on public art and education. The completed Running Man wall drawings at Clay Cross, Derbyshire have been swiftly followed by a range of new commissions including the newly installed " Belle " at Cleethorpes Leisure Centre.
